1- Undekhi is a decent watch. The acting is on point, although the character development of certain characters were incompete and hence their actions were a bit hard to believe. For instance, Rishi was completely left unexplored, and it showed cos it was hard to really empathise or connect with his character. Also, toward sthe last few episodes, the series started bordering on line of reality vs absurdity, but overall it was a good watch. Good attempt, and hoping for more such interesting premises and acting from Indian web series’s.
2- If a purpose of a movie or a web series is to connect with the viewers minds and kindle the viewer’s thought process, well Undekhi will do that brutally well. The web series depicts the two aspects of the society the power-drunk influential people who think they can get away with anything and the oppressed, subjected to years of injustice and torture, who finally decide to bring themselves to justice. In addition to corrupt bureaucracy and legal system, that shamelessly bows to the rich. And between this seen and unseen, lies Undekhi.
Cinematography is a little marred by some TV soapish, styled shots. Screenplay is excellent throughout the series with some very interesting and immensely engaging scenes well placed within every episode, dialogues are excellent but has obscene amounts of profanity. Though wonderfully written overall a certain portion screenplay does suffers form logical loopholes and continuity errors. Production design and music were par. Costumes and makeup were a little garish to my liking. On the acting front Dibyendu Bhattacharya delivers a very seasoned performance ably supported by some good performance like Harsh Chaya’s, but some cast, especially the henchmen were terrible.
Overall, Undekhi has a pacey narrative and well-etched characters. It introduces new twists and turns in every episode to keep the viewers hooked. With expletives in abundance, the dialogues give the series a raw feel. And if you’ve been missing travelling to the mountains for a while, the 10 part series brilliantly captures the scenic beauty of Manali. Should one watch it? Absolutely Yes. Undekhi deserves 8 stars out 10 but I am going to cut a star for some dubious Rambo-First Blood inspired forest scenes and equally dubious well armed forest officials in pursuit of the suspects. 7 stars out of 10 for Siddharth Sengupta’s well engaging crime drama.
