1- Is it no wonder the press is against this movie? After all they spent a great deal of time covering for Hollywood actors who are deviants. This movie is about sex trafficking, though the trailer would not show this. Alex Lewis (Liam Neeson) is a contract killer who is given the task of murdering someone who may link a very power person to child sex trafficking. Here’s the problem…it isn’t gritty enough. Director Martin Campbell is a glossy international film director. Movies like “Casino Royale” sparkle under his watch while smaller films like this need to be in the hands of a Tony Scott. It needs grit. And ugliness. Since the subject matter is as horrific as possible. Instead, it is way too sanitized to drive the point across. As is the theme of “justice” Though, again, the critics seem to shy away from topics about what justice really means. In a sense, Alex is Dirty Harry. A man so disgusted by the bureaucrats that his takes justice into his own hands. Conversely, Guy Pearce’s character lives in the never ending cycle of powerful people doing crooked things…cough… Hunter Biden…cough. I doubt that was their message. But I like the reasoning. In a fair world these rich and powerful people should get what they deserve. The problem with this flick is that it isn’t at the hands of who was done wrong. Revenge isn’t tied up properly with the people who needed to do the right thing. Yes, it’s a confusing direction. Everything is thrown at the wall and some of it sticks. I think enough to watch it.
2- I don’t want to spoil anyone but I barely see trailers and I just saw 4 main actors I enjoy. Guy Pearce the true lead actor here with of course Liam Neeson doing a strong lead hit man here. Ray Stevenson and Monica belluci in minor but very important roles. But the one that shine the most is Guy Pearce. It’s been a while I have seen him in a good role. He did a few B movies that were ok but here he truly give all on the role. If you enjoy Martin Campbell work like The November Man. You will enjoy a lot. Sure he did Bond movies. Here it’s not and that’s perfect that way.
