Download The Golden Compass 2007 Full Movie Hindi – Storyline :

1- The Golden Compass is lovely to look at, I mean I really liked the costumes and the scenery. The problem is that the plot of the film is a bit muddled. I haven’t read the book by Phillip Pullman but I’ve heard from my brother it’s very good. Back to the film, there were some scenes where the action felt rushed, and others got a bit confusing plot wise. I think that director Chris Weitz was trying to cram too much into a 108 minute film, and because of that, the script became increasingly uneven and contrived. Though on a positive note, I really liked the acting. Dakota Blue Richards gave a spirited performance as Lyra, and Nicole Kidman looks beautiful and manipulative as Mrs Coulter. And Ian McKellan did a superb job with the voicing of the polar bear, and the polar bear fight was definitely one of the better scenes of the movie. The only casting problem was that of Daniel Craig, he just seemed out of character. All in all, an enjoyable film, with a 7/10. Bethany Cox.

2- In a parallel world, human souls take the form of animal demons that live alongside their humans and the belief-system of the world is rigidly structured and controlled by The Magisterium. In this world, young orphan Lyra Belaqua learns that her uncle and tutor Lord Asriel has made a discovery in the frozen north in relation to the cosmic dust of other worlds – a discovery that may rubbish some long-held beliefs and raise some key theological questions. Not long after her uncle leaves on his quest, Lyra is invited away by the seemingly friendly Mrs Coulter, who appears to have her best interests at heart. Unbeknownst to Lyra though, she may be the subject of a prophecy surrounding a girl with the power to read the truth through a golden compass, and bring about great change – change that the Magisterium will do anything to prevent.

With generally so-so reviews, The Golden Compass sat on my rental list for quite some time before I finally got around to seeing it. Watching it for myself with only my own mind to tell me what I thought, I found that I actually quite enjoyed the film. Of course it helps that I have not gone anywhere near the book or even knew much about it other than it was something gone after by the Catholic church among other religious establishments. Those criticising the film generally come from the “it is nowhere near as good as the book” camp and, having been victim to that myself in the past, I can totally see where they are coming from (and will do in the future as I will get the book now). However, when watching a film it is possible to judge it on its own merits rather than comparing it to another media where problems and opportunities are different.

On its own terms the film is not a perfect piece of work and the pressures in terms of time and accessibility to a mass audience are clear. It is not just that characters on the poster played by major actors are barely on the screen and have their fate open-ended but just the general air of swift movement that does mean the plot is delivered in simple blocks – again something that will annoy those that hold up the book as a detailed work of genius. For me as a viewer though, it had enough intelligence and good ideas behind it to carry me through and prevent me getting bored with it or offended by its simplicity. I didn’t think it explained enough about its concepts but it still held my interest and engaged me with the concept of the authoritarian oppression of free thought and alternative ideas as much as it did with the action and spectacle of the blockbuster which it was.

Speaking of spectacle, it was impressive for the most part, although it is hard to make talking creatures seem “real” on this scale even with modern CGI. The locations (real and created) are impressive though and I never questioned the reality of this other world as it felt convincingly present and drawn out. The delivery of the story is not so convincing but, as I say, Weitz’ script did the basics for me without ever being good enough to tell me what the fuss was about (hence me now going to get the book). The cast is full of stars but I’m not sure I totally appreciated all of them nor how their characters were played out. The pressure is mainly on Richards as Lyra and to my mind she was too clean and educated to fit with her character. Here and there she gets rough around the edges but it is unconvincing when she does – I would have preferred more of a tomboy type in this role, not someone so well structured as it were. Conversely I thought Kidman was well-cast as Coulter as she brought cold menace with the superficial warmth of an attractive woman with little underneath. Craig may get high billing but he does nothing to justify it; he is not “bad” by any means but I imagine he did this on a couple of weekends. McKellen is not only a great character but also a perfectly cast voice, likewise McShane in a smaller role. I liked most of the supporting roles with Elliott, Lee, Green, Bates and others all adding their names, faces and voices to the feel of a quality product.

Ultimately though The Golden Compass is not as engaging, exciting or insightful as fans of the book tell me that the source material really is. Even on its own merits it must be said that it does ever feel like it is living up to its potential in any way other than visual effects but, that said, it is still engaging enough to be a solid and interesting blockbuster and it is a shame that it didn’t perform that well as I would have been interested in seeing where it goes from here. Not a brilliant film then but as an effects-heavy blockbuster it does manage to be quite intelligent and engaging despite falling short of what I felt it could and should have been.
